Phosphate Control in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: Issues, Solutions, and Open Questions

چکیده
Hyperphosphatemia is a common complication in advanced chronic kidney disease and contributes to cardiovascular morbidity mortality. The present narrative review focuses on the management of phosphatemia uremic patients receiving peritoneal dialysis. These frequently develop hyperphosphatemia since phosphate anion behaves as middle-size molecule despite its low molecular weight. Accordingly, patient transporter characteristics dialysis modalities prescriptions remarkably influence serum control. Given that removal often insufficient, especially lower transporters, are prescribed binders whose use primarily based clinical trials conducted hemodialysis because very few studies have been performed solely populations. A crucial role control among played by diet, which must help reducing phosphorous intake while preventing malnutrition. Moreover, residual renal function, preserved most patients, significantly maintaining balance. inadequate observed many highlights need for large well-designed including exclusively evaluate effects multiple therapeutic approach hard outcomes this high-risk population.

Comparison of Marital Satisfaction in Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Patients
Alternative kidney treatments, including renal transplantation, hemodialysis (HD), and peritoneal dialysis (PD), are administered when severe kidney failure occurs and the kidney can no longer function. The present study compares different dimensions of marital satisfaction in HD and PD patients so as to assist physicians and patients in choosing their appropriate treatment. This cross-se...
متن کاملPeritoneal Dialysis Solutions
Staphylococcus epidermidis is the most frequent cause of peritonitis complicating continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. We studied factors that might influence the growth of S. epidermidis in commercially available peritoneal dialysis solution (PDS). Test strains were inoculated into PDS and incubated overnight at 37°C. Samples were removed at appropriate intervals, bacterial counts were p...
متن کاملBiocompatible Solutions for Peritoneal Dialysis
In 1978, a simplified technique for peritoneal dialysis (PD) using plastic bags and glucose as osmotic agent allowed PD to become accepted as a home-based renal replacement therapy. However, PD was marred by complications including peritonitis and loss of function of the peritoneal membrane. Both complications may be favored by the bioincompatibility of PD solutions. The composition of PD solut...
متن کاملGynecologic Issues in Peritoneal Dialysis 103 Pregnancy
This paper reviews the issues associated with the reproductive system in the special population of female patients with end-stage renal disease on peritoneal dialysis (PD). We summarize current knowledge concerning cancer screening tests, elective and urgent gynecologic procedures, and the issues of menstruation, contraception, pregnancy, and delivery in these patients. Finally, we present the ...
متن کاملPhosphate control in dialysis
Prevention and correction of hyperphosphatemia is a major goal of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) management, achievable through avoidance of a positive phosphate balance. To this aim, optimal dialysis removal, careful use of phosphate binders, and dietary phosphate control are needed to optimize the control of phosphate balance in well-nourished patients on a standar...
